April 17th, 2023 Supply Update: Blueberries – Are beginning domestically in Florida, and Georgia should start this coming week.

Blueberries – Should continue locally well into July and then we’ll make the transition to more Northern states like New Jersey and Michigan.

Blueberries – Are beginning domestically in Florida, and Georgia should start this coming week. They should be very plentiful from then until the middle of summer. Our local farmers will begin in another few weeks.

Asparagus – Peru seems to be having a rocky start, and with Mexico finishing up their season, supplies are a little bit tighter, raising prices for the time being.

Avocados – Pretty weather in the avocado groves has good harvests during the middle of the season. Markets are stable as we move into warmer months and higher demand.

Cabbage – Has been a little short since before St. Patrick’s Day, but the warm weather in Florida finally brought it on like a burst dam. Prices are down, quality is great and supplies are strong.

California Products – The predicted shortages on pretty much all vegetables coming out of California has begun. Broccoli, cauliflower and lettuces are the first ones to show the shortfalls because of the high volumes of these items. Prices are rising fast, but I think we’re just at the beginning of it, because the flooded areas should have been harvested in April, May and June, and it’s just not there because it couldn’t be planted on time. It’s going to get worse before it gets better.

Eastern Vegetables – Solid, dependable weather in Florida has many items in strong production. Corn, cucumbers, zucchini, and beans are all widely available and pricing is improving as we see strong harvests and a solid supply. Yellow Squash continues to be a struggle as quality has suffered with the wind scarring many of the fruits.

Eggs – We’re seeing an easing of demand after the Easter Holiday. Prices are down, though supplies have not yet caught up with demand overall.

Strawberries – We’ve started our local strawberry season. It’s a bit early this year because of the warm winter we’ve had. Quality has been gorgeous and we’re looking forward to a great season. This is good timing because California’s strawberry season is going to be a disaster with the rains they’ve had. It’s always exciting to start the strawberry season, because that’s the kickoff of the local season for so many other items.

A: It’s not stroganoff.
Q: If a tomato is technically a fruit, is Ketchup technically a smoothie?
