Eggs – We’re seeing an easing of demand after the Easter Holiday. Prices are down, and white eggs are lower than Cage Free eggs for the first time in over a year. We have white eggs back in stock and will continue to carry the premium Cage Free eggs so you can choose which will
work for you better.
Asparagus – It’s asparagus season for sure! We’re starting to see some local asparagus and California and Washington state growers are also harvesting, which is offsetting nicely the light supplies from Peruvian growers.
Avocados – Pretty weather in the avocado groves has good harvests during the middle of the season. Markets are stable as we move into warmer months and higher demand.
Blueberries – Are beginning domestically in Florida, and Georgia should start this coming week. They should be very plentiful from then until the middle of summer. Our local farmers will begin in another few weeks.
California Products – The predicted shortages on pretty much all vegetables coming out of California have begun. Broccoli, cauliflower and lettuces are the first ones to show the shortfalls because of the high volumes of these items. Prices are rising fast, but I think we’re just at the beginning of it, because the
flooded areas should have been harvested in April, May and June, and it’s just not there because it couldn’t be planted on time. It’s going to get worse before it gets better.
Eastern Vegetables – Solid, dependable weather in Florida has many items in strong production. Corn, cucumbers, zucchini, and beans are all widely available and pricing is improving as we see strong harvests and a solid supply.
Lettuces – All types are running short right now as California shippers are already struggling to fill orders. They will get shorter and supply and more expensive as the fields in Arizona completely clean up. We’re expecting some very extreme markets going forward for the next month or two. Iceberg, Romaine, Green Leaf and any substitute for these will be in short supply.
Peaches – We should begin our east coast peach season very soon. We’re waiting for them to size up a little bit more before bringing them in stock. After our mild winter and early spring, we’re expecting an excellent season.
Strawberries – The rains last week shut down local strawberries, but we’ll be back into them as soon as the fields dry back out and the vines re-fruit.
Many people are shocked to find out I’m not a licensed electrician.
