Local Produce – Many items were just getting cranked up last week until the rains shut down production. Besides the damage that the rain does to the produce, when the fields are this wet the farmers and pickers cannot get into the fields. So harvests basically pause for a little while. They’ll be up and running again this coming week, as soon as the ground dries out.
Avocados – Mexican farmers really cranked up their prices last week as they transition from old to new crop fruit. Supplies are much lower during the transition and they’re fetching more for what is available.
Broccoli – Is still available locally, and saving everyone a lot of money over product that has to be delivered from across the country. We’ll stay local as long as we can.
Cherries – The West Coast had an extremely successful cherry season. California is winding up their season, but Washington and Oregon are just getting started on their harvests and expecting a strong crop. Prices remain very good.
Corn – In spite of the rains, our corn farmer was able to get some more harvested this week and they’ve been absolutely gorgeous. Feature them in your summer menus.
Eggs – Egg prices went as low as they could a couple of weeks ago, but they’re settling in at a bit higher but still very favorable level.
Grapes – As Mexican growers continue their harvest, supplies are growing quickly. What started out as an very tight, high priced market, is falling quickly. Prices are improving weekly.
Lettuces – Are widely available with great quality. The transition to northern fields is over and it wasn’t as bad as feared. Pricing has leveled out for the time being.
Peppers – Got started locally early this week, but then the rains shut down picking, causing markets to rise slightly. They should be widely available again once the sky clears.
Potatoes – Idaho potatoes are starting to tighten up and prices are easing upwards. Shippers are anticipating running out of potatoes a little bit early this year, so we may see a gap in July before the new harvest begins. Stay stocked up so you don’t run out at the end.
