Tomatoes – The first of July is generally the start time for our local tomatoes, and they’re right on time this year. We’re well on our way to a great season. Quality and pricing have both been excellent! Local Heirloom and grape tomatoes have been beautiful also.
Local Produce – The high temps last week caused a bloom drop on the local squash plants, so they’re wrapped up for the season. We should see a second crop of them late in the summer time. We’re still receiving many items locally now, though. Beans, corn, tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers continue!
Asparagus – Continues to be tight in volume. Sizing harvested from the fields is trending mostly standard to medium, with very few XL and jumbo available. Tight volume is projected to continue for the next couple of weeks, waiting for the new fields in the South of Peru to start production.
Blueberries – Are wrapping up locally, with the heat finishing the season sooner than everyone wanted to. Michigan, though, with it’s cooler weather, still has plenty to sell.
Broccoli – Finished their harvest on the East Coast and became extremely short with the move out west. Prices are higher this week.
Cherries – The West Coast had an extremely successful cherry season. California has finished their season, but Washington and Oregon are just getting started on their harvests and expecting a strong crop. Prices remain very good, and the cherries are delicious!
Corn – Is still at peak harvest here in NC and they’ve been BEAUTIFUL. Keep featuring them and keep your customers smiling!
Grapes – Mexico is still harvesting grapes and California is beginning also, creating a glut market. Prices are way down and likely will stay low until schools begin again as they are huge users and will change the market.
Lettuces – Are widely available with great quality. The transition to northern fields is over and it wasn’t as bad as feared. Pricing has leveled out for the time being.
Peppers – Are very plentiful locally and quality has been awesome. Strong supplies from many areas on the East Coast have kept prices low.
