Cherries and Stone Fruit – Cherries, plums, peaches, and plumcots are all at peak season. Quality and flavor are delicious. Use them while you can because the season will be over before you know it.
Local Produce – A lot of local items have finished up, because of the hot summer days. We’re still seeing the following items in good quantities from our local farmers…Tomatoes of all kinds, including heirlooms, hard squashes, corn, peppers and eggplant. Summer squashes will have a second harvest later in the year.
Asparagus – Continues to be tight in volume. Sizing harvested from the fields is trending mostly standard to medium, with very few XL and jumbo available. Tight volume is projected to continue for the next couple of weeks, waiting for the new fields in the South of Peru to start production.
Blueberries – Are wrapping up locally, with the heat finishing the season sooner than everyone wanted to. Michigan, though, with it’s cooler weather, still has plenty to sell.
Broccoli – Finished their harvest on the East Coast and became extremely short with the move out west. Prices are higher this week.
Corn – Is still at peak harvest here in NC and they’ve been BEAUTIFUL. Keep featuring them and keep your customers smiling! Other areas are harvesting now too, the market is in an oversupply situation, with more than they can sell.
Grapes – Mexico is still harvesting grapes and California is beginning also, creating a glut market. Prices are way down and likely will stay low until schools begin again as they are huge users and will change the market.
Lettuces – Are widely available with great quality. The transition to northern fields is over and it wasn’t as bad as feared. Pricing has leveled out for the time being.
Peppers – Are slowing down locally but other more northern areas are cranking up. Supplies remain solid.
Tomatoes – Tomato season is here! We have all kinds of local tomatoes and they have been delicious and amazing! Quality is exceptional and pricing has been great. Our local farmers are really bringing diamonds to us right now, so get out the Duke’s and white bread. It’s time for tomato sandwiches!
