Local Produce – A lot of local items have finished up, because of the hot summer days, but we’re still seeing smaller harvests of many items. …Tomatoes of all kinds, including heirlooms, hard squashes, corn, peppers and some smaller amounts of summer squashes.
Asparagus – Asparagus market continues to be tight in volume from all points of origin compared to last year which is keeping pressure on prices. They are now starting to harvest fields in Southern Peru which will help the volume. Supplies are expected to continue like this for the next couple of months.
Blueberries – Are wrapping up locally, with the heat finishing the season sooner than everyone wanted to. Michigan, though, with it’s cooler weather, still has plenty to sell.
Cherries and Stonefruit – Cherries, plums, peaches, and plumcots are all at peak season. Quality and flavor are delicious. Use them while you can because the season will be over before you know it.
Corn – Is very limited, though still available locally. Other areas are harvesting at full speed, keeping the market very favorable to use it in your menus.
Grapes – Mexico is wrapping up their harvest, ending the glut of grapes. California is well into their season now and the market is stabilizing at a higher level. Quality remains very good.
Lettuces – Are widely available with great quality. The transition to northern fields is over and it wasn’t as bad as feared. Pricing has leveled out for the time being.
Peppers – Are still being harvested just about everywhere and supplies and pricing remain very good.
Potatoes – Idaho potato shippers are now expecting a smooth transition to the new crop as storage supplies have held up well. They expect to begin harvest around the middle of this month.
Tomatoes – Our local tomato season continues. We have all kinds of local tomatoes and they have been delicious and amazing! Quality is exceptional and pricing has been great.
My boss asked me why I only got sick on workdays… It must be my weekend immune system.
