Happy Friday the 13th!
Local Produce –Tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers and squash are still going strong.
Apples – Western apple shippers are harvesting more and more varieties as the season continues. They are anticipated to have the largest crop in several years this season, so it will be a great year to promote your apple desserts.
Asparagus – Asparagus supplies are improving as newer fields begin production in Peru. Prices are down a bit and expected to continue that trend.
Blueberries – Remain extremely tight. Driscoll is projecting they’ll be in very short supply for the next 6-8 weeks due to weather events in Peru. Might be a good time to feature other berries.
Corn – Georgia is getting into their harvest and quality has been excellent! As long as the warm weather holds out, we should have beautiful corn this fall.
Fall Decorations – We have decorative gourds, Indian corn, miniature pumpkins, medium and large pumpkins and other decorative items for your fall displays.
Grapes – Continue to slowly climbing as we work our way through October. Hopefully, we start to see some relief once South America begins their season in late October.
Greens – Quality has gotten much better this week with the cooler weather. Hot days are tough on greens, making them yellow rather than the dark green of wintertime.
Potatoes – Not much new to report as harvest continues and reports remain positive. We are still experiencing good sizing, yields, and quality from most growing regions. The high yields, coupled with more acreage, are all creating an overall increase in supply, as predicted. As harvest continues, we are seeing markets continue to stabilize and settle.
Summer Squash – Georgia has started their fall season, our local farmers are still harvesting and Mexico has started their season. Supplies are strong on all soft squashes.
Hard Squashes – Fall is the time for hard squashes, and we have plenty in stock to choose from and feature. We have acorn, butternut, delicata, spaghetti, blue hubbard and kabocha and lots of pumpkins!
