December 4th, 2023 Supply Update: Greens – Quality has gotten much better lately with the cooler weather, making them the nice dark green of wintertime.

collard greens. Winter dark green

Apples – They are now in the last days of harvest on this new crop of apples. The weather forecast looks good for the next week, so they should be able to finish harvesting the rest of the apples in the next week or so. This crop is projected to come in around 130 million cases which will make it the best crop in the last several years. This will result in much better pricing this season from now all the way into early summer.

Asparagus – Peruvian farms are going strong and supplies as well as quality are much improved. We should see steady markets until we get to the Christmas Holiday pull.

Beans – Green beans came way down this week. Thanksgiving cleaned up much of the volume that was available, but we should see an easing until Christmas.

Cabbage – Our local farmers are harvesting good volumes of beautiful cabbage. Northern areas are finished for the season, but Georgia will begin soon, bringing stronger volume to the market and easing pricing.

Cucumbers – After a couple of weeks of cheap pricing, they’ve tightened up as Georgia winds down their season. Everyone is looking forward to Mexico and Florida getting started on their harvest, but supplies will be extremely tight until then.

Greens – Quality has gotten much better lately with the cooler weather, making them the nice dark green of wintertime. They’re expecting good volumes for the holidays.

Melons – We’re getting honeydews, cantaloupe and watermelons now from Mexico. Pricing is very favorable because of good supply and lighter demand during the cooler season.

Onions – West coast onion shippers have plentiful crops and high quality right now. Pricing is very good.

Potatoes – As harvest continues, we are seeing excellent yields and lots of volume in all of the major growing areas. Red and Yukons are in good volumes in several areas. Idaho has a huge crop of russets and is looking for as many orders as they can get. Now is a great time to promote potatoes!

Squash and Zucchini – Suddenly tightened up late this week when demand exceeded supply available. Florida should start their harvest very soon, easing the supply chain.

I just ordered a chicken and an egg from Amazon.
I’ll let you know.
